Understanding Classification and Nature of Rocks

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

This will be a hands-on class that will help you discover what to look for when classifying rocks into igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks. We will look at the crystal structure, crystal size, color, texture, luster, sparkles, weight, and hardness of rocks to determine where they are formed and how they were formed by nature. We will also discuss the processes nature uses to form these rocks. This class can also be for the younger grades (K-2, Standard 2, Objective 1) and for 8th grade (Standard 3, Objective 1). There will be lesson plan hand-outs and information where rocks can be found.
