Putting Some STEAM in Your STEM: Activities for Integrating Art and History

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

This workshop will present fun activities for adding art, history, and technology to your existing science classes. Do you teach chemical reactions? Why not run an inquiry lab to determine the ideal formula for iron-gall ink, a traditional recipe used for centuries? Or develop pigments for watercolor paints based on ancient formulas, or make marbled paper or tie dyed shirts? We’ll share techniques for creating stop motion animations of nuclear fission or fusion, mitosis or meiosis, or any other process. We’ll look at methods to incorporate technology, such as visualizing the periodic properties of elements using free 3D software, or creating 3D models from altitude data of the Moon or Mars. These activities will pique student interest and add a little STEAM to your STEM.
