Mr. Potato Head: Modeling Meiosis, Genetic Recombination and Sexual Reproduction
This activity is designed to solidify critical principles of meiosis, genetic recombination, and sexual reproduction so that students have an appropriate tool set to use as they move forward to explore how organisms, populations, and species develop and evolve.

If Animals Lived on Mars, This is How They Could Do It
Metazoans in the McMurdo Dry Valleys (MCMDV) must cope with multiple environmental stresses that also exist on Mars, including high (and dry) winds, rapid desiccation, and extreme variations in temperature, salinity and water availability. A handful of metazoan species not only persist, but also seemingly thrive in these harsh environments. I will present some of my recent research on the adaptive strategies these organisms have evolved in order to survive extreme environmental stress.

Pigeonetics
A new online game that illuminates basic principles of inheritance! Pigeons exhibit an amazing array of traits in color, pattern, shapes and sizes. Become a pigeon breeder and work to solve a progression of puzzles that move through different traits and trait combinations. As you progress, learn about the basic principles of inheritance and molecular mechanisms behind some of the fanciest pigeon characteristics. Free at: http://learn.genetics.utah.edu

Pop Bottle Flower Anatomy
Come and see a lab where students learn the anatomy of a flower by designing and building their own. Help students not only enjoy the beauty of flowers, but appreciate the diversity as you discuss complete, incomplete, perfect, and imperfect flowers. This activity is applicable to a basic plant anatomy or plant reproduction unit.
