Gaming for Air Quality
The University of Utah, with support from UCAIR, developed a free video game aimed at teaching local high-school students – the next generation of decision makers – how collective personal decisions affect air quality along the Wasatch Front during poor-air-quality episodes. The session will focus on demonstrating the game, which focuses on individual actions that young adults can take. Students will be able to see the impact they can have on air quality locally as well as how it can change in the future. The game will feature sound science and a system that will allow players to experiment, seeing the positive and negative effect of outcomes they take. Rather than being an abstraction, the goal of the game is to provide an experience that not only informs players they can have an impact but provides an understanding of their environment.
